Under the general direction of the department head, the Planning Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the activities of the Planning Division within the Community and Economic Development Department. This position is responsible for coordinating the Planning Division activities with other divisions and departments and provides highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Director of Community and Economic Development.
The City of Modesto is seeking a forward-thinking professional to serve as the Planning Manager. Candidates must possess the ability to manage the Planning Division operations and activities and perform the most complex work of the division. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, anticipate consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals. Candidates must have experience preparing and administering a budget as well as supervising, training, and evaluating personnel. Candidates must possess knowledge of and the ability to interpret, explain, and apply federal, state, local, and department policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Knowledge of current principles and practices of urban planning and program development with a particular emphasis on environmental review, land usage and division, and growth management is essential.
The annual salary range for the Planning Manager position is $131,206.40 - $167,440.00; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
